Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations
Effective August 20, 2010:
Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry Rule §6.13 requires dentists to complete at least 16 hours of instructive classroom training with clinically-oriented patient experiences, and obtain a "B-2" permit before providing their patients with minimal sedation using oral sedatives in-office (with or without nitrous).*
*When the intent is oral anxiolysis by prescription, a permit is not required.
Effective August 20, 2010: Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry Rule §6.15(2)(b) requires dental offices where local anesthesia is administered to have an automated external defibrillator (AED) among other required emergency equipment and drugs.
