Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations
Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners Rule §29 requires a dentist to complete at least 22 hours of instructive classroom training with 15 clinical patient experiences, and obtain a permit before providing their healthy adult patients with moderate sedation using oral sedatives.*
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is also required.
*For pediatric patients (<19yo) or adult patients who present with special health care needs, additional specific training is required. When the intent is Minimal sedation only, a permit is not required.
Permit Renewal Requirements: Current ACLS (and PALS if patients <13yo) when renewing dental license.

NOTE: Beginning July 1, 2012, every dental office in the state of Mississippi is required to have an automated external defibrillator (AED). The dentist and staff must be prepared to use this equipment in an emergency.
