Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations
American Dental Association sedation guidelines recommend that a dentist should complete at least 24 hours of instructive classroom training with at least 10 clinical patient experiences before providing healthy adult patients with moderate sedation using oral sedatives (incl. Valium®)*
*The Oklahoma Board of Dentistry requires a 16-hour board-approved course and PALS certification before providing enteral (oral) conscious sedation to pediatric dental patients. The Board does not currently require formal training for adult OCS, but the ADA guidelines recommend at least 16 hours training for minimal sedation.
