Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations
Effective October 1, 2009: Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners Rule Article XIII will require a dentist to complete at least 24 hours of instructive classroom training with 10 clinical patient experiences, and obtain a permit before providing their adult patients with minimal and moderate sedation using oral sedatives (incl. Valium®)*
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification will also be required.
*When the intent is Minimal sedation with or without nitrous, only 16 hours of training will be required.
Qualified staff: Sedation monitoring staff (minimal and moderate) will be required to obtain a nitrous permit and have basic life support (BLS) certification.
